Transcript of oral history interview with Toby Jenkins in 2009 or 2010 as part of the Vintage Series of interviews, alongside an addendum interview recorded on May 26, 2026. Video available at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center for on-site research. Born in Duncan, Oklahoma, Carolyn graduated from Walters, Oklahoma High School in 1963. In 1969, she graduated from the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts in Chickasha. She begin a teaching career at Madison High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, followed by teaching stints in Duncan and Locust Grove, Oklahoma. While in Locust Grove, she begin commuting to Tulsa to become involved in the LGBTQ+ community and was active in Metropolitan Community Church. She was the founding director of the women’s choral group, Women of Council Oak, which later became Sisters in Song. She discusses her involvement with the AIDS Quilt and other outreach in support of those dealing with HIV.
